Umbrella Sedge Series

Umbrella Sedge Series

The vigorous umbrella sedge takes 4-6 months to harvest, and only grows in crystal-clear water. It is a traditional material in coastal indigenous’ woven culture. By separating the skin of the sedge stem from the inner fibers, craftsman Sumi Dongi avoid mildew problems, and made the mats more delicate in nature.

During the collaboration between Kamaro’an and Sumi Dongi, we weave umbrella sedge on structural metal frames to create lightings and stationery with modern forms. This enables the craft to produce in a small but scaled system.

Cost and Profit Sharing

In Kamaro’an, every design is inspired by the tribal artist’s works, every piece of products is crafted by the local community. We offer respectful payroll to local weavers, and share profits with craftsman.
